Army’s explosives disposal team called after ‘suspicious items’ found at property in Birmingham

Officers discovered the items during a pre-planned warrant at an address on Hastings Road near Perry Common on Thursday (March 20) morning.

A police cordon was put in place and nearby residents were evacuated from their homes.

The cordon was lifted after the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team confirmed there was no risk to the wider public, a West Midlands Police spokesman said.

In a statement on Thursday afternoon, the force spokesman added: “Nearby residents who were evacuated as a precaution have now returned to their homes, and we thank them for their patience.”
