Brighton man arrested after Police raid property for stolen firearms

A man has been slapped with several charges after police swooped on a property in the state’s south.

The 39-year-old is accused of various firearm, property and drug offences following a police operation in Brighton.

Detective Acting Sergeant Sam Storer said officers from the Bridgewater Criminal Investigation Branch and other specialised police resources executed a search warrant on Friday.

“This resulted in the seizure of stolen and homemade firearms, ammunition, illicit drugs and a significant quantity of stolen property including a boat,” he said.

“The man was charged with an array of firearm, property and illicit drug offences.”

Storer described the seized weapons as “extremely dangerous”.

“Stolen and homemade illegal firearms pose a significant risk to the wider community and are extremely dangerous to those who choose to use them,” he said.

“Tasmania Police will continue to target and disrupt offenders engaging in this type of nefarious activity, because of the real threat they pose to community safety.”

“We will also continue to proactively target and hold accountable those involved in the illicit firearm and drug trade.”
