An advert for a ‘fully renovated’ house has tipped already frustrated renters over the edge, with photos showing a toilet connected to water via a hose to the bathroom sink.
Several real estate ads for the Auburn property in western Sydney, have been widely shared across social media with commenters left aghast by the $750-a-week asking price.
‘The toilet is connected via a hose from the sink. The kitchen is nightmare fuel, and the laundry looks like you’re gonna get live-ins,’ one person wrote.
The 613sqm, red brick property boasts three bedrooms, a ‘good kitchen’, one bathroom, a private yard and street parking.
A granny flat is also on the property but is ‘not included’ in the rent.
While the description sounds like an ideal home, photos of the property show it is severely run-down.
Not to mention the advertised rent is $100 above the median price of a three-bedroom house in the popular suburb, according to data from Realestate.com.au.
‘Imagine what the rooms they didn’t show look like,’ one commenter said.
‘Oh my gosh that should be illegal to advertise! How is that a place someone can live in?,’ another wrote.
‘Trying to decide which bathroom is better – this one with the hose or the one which looks like a grenade has gone off in it,’ another said.
Meanwhile, the kitchen features several crumbling cabinets, filthy floors and random wall tiles.
Another alarming photo showed a second garden hose-reliant toilet in a dirty concrete room with a hot water tank being propped up by spare bricks.
‘That’s not a crack house, that’s a crack home,’ one viewer wrote online.
‘How can you knowingly let someone live there and take their money. I think I’d rather sleep outside if I was looking for a rental,’ another said.
Some commenters theorised the owner may have accidentally uploaded photos of the home before its renovation.
‘Surely they forgot to add the new photos – the photos of AFTER the renovations,’ one said.
‘Fully renovated’, is this an April fools?,’ another wrote.
Only one photo of the outside of the home remains attached to the rental ad with the rest removed by the owners.
The ad was taken by viewers as just another sign of Sydney’s growing rental crisis which has seen prices skyrockets around the city due to scarcity.
