Isle of Wight High Street shops sold at auction this month
There were 175 lots from across southern England included in the auction, which was Clive Emson Auctioneers’ 250th auction – with it first held in 1989.
A freehold town centre building at 95 Newport High Street, covering more than 11,000 sq ft over two floors and with vacant possession, went for £326,000.
The space was formally used as a Poundstretcher store, which closed in 2020.
Gully Howard was joint auctioneers.
The commercial premises at 52, 52A and 52B Shanklin High Street – sold freehold for £70,000.
52B is let to a barber shop and interconnected with the former Isle of Sweets shop, 52 and 52A, which remains vacant.
Scotcher & Co. were joint auctioneers.
A freehold block of flats at St George’s Hall in George Street, Sandown, with vacant possession, fetched £298,000.
The hall, which was previously a church hall and labour exchange, was converted into four two-bedroom flats and had been let to a housing association.
Guided at £85,000-plus, a freehold building at 11-13 Sandown High Street sold prior to the auction.
It was originally constructed as a branch of Barclays Bank to serve the town, with the ground floor, in more recent years, providing offices for solicitors Jerome & Co.
Converted into a flat, the first floor has been sold on a long leasehold.
Joint auctioneers were Scotcher & Co.
A three-bedroom semi-detached house at 50 Shanklin High Street, with a courtyard garden to the side, was purchased for £148,000.
Westfield Cottage, a two-bedroom freehold residence in a semi-rural location at New Road in Porchfield, was bought for £150,000.
The joint auctioneers were Megan Baker.
