Stock market LIVE: Sensex sinks 1,100 pts, Nifty below 22,400; RIL sheds 3% | News on Markets

Stock Market Live on Friday, May 3: Benchmark indices reversed course, after a fairly strong start to the trading session on Friday owing to selling pressure in key index heavyweights. The S&P BSE Sensex hit a high of 75,095, and was quoting around 74,050, down 550 points. The NSE Nifty50 hit a high of 22,795, and was down 135 points at 22,510.

Reliance Industries (RIL), Larsen & Toubro and HDFC Bank accounted for nearly half the losses on the BSE Sensex. That apart, Nestle India, Bhartii Airtel, ITC and Hindustan Unilever were the other major losers. Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv, however, managed to hold gains. Tata Steel was other notable gainer.  

On other hand, ONGC, BPCL and Bajaj Auto were among top gainers on NSE Nifty 50 while Coal India and Heromotocorp were among the top losers.

In the broader market, the BSE MidCap was down 0.6 per cent, while the SmallCap shed 0.6 per cent.
