IPO impacts crypto

The company will allocate 30% or $22.5 billion of shares for retail investors, a notable departure from typical institutional offerings.

This shift may drive liquidation of risk assets like cryptocurrencies as investors seek funds for SpaceX shares and upcoming IPOs from OpenAI and Anthropic.

Bitcoin currently trades at $61,852, down 52% from its peak of $126,223 last October.

According to Spencer Hallarn, funding for the SpaceX IPO must come from somewhere, potentially impacting crypto liquidity.

SpaceX’s IPO reflects its aims to grow into an AI leader and pursue ambitious projects like Mars missions.

This speculative nature aligns it with retail investors who traditionally influence crypto markets.

Thomas Puech, CEO of INDIGO, suggests the IPO could initially divert capital from cryptocurrency, which is competing for the same investment pool.

SpaceX’s IPO materials reveal the company is currently unprofitable, relying on aggressive future growth expectations.

Bitcoin recently fell 15%, marking its steepest drop since the FTX collapse in late 2022.

David Morrison from Trade Nation noted that interest in Bitcoin is waning, compounded by news of Michael Saylor’s company selling some holdings.

Cryptocurrency values soared during the Trump administration but struggled under regulatory threats and have yet to recover.

Outflows from crypto ETFs exceeded $2 billion in May, highlighting investor redirection to equities.

With additional IPOs approaching and potential interest rate hikes, recovery for crypto appears challenging.

Market sentiment might continue to favour equities over cryptocurrencies in the near term.

SpaceX’s debut coincides with increased caution from investors concerning the crypto sector.
