Jones County property owners are raising concerns after receiving appraisal notices showing sharp increases in property values, prompting the Jones County Appraisal District to hold two public meetings to address questions from residents.
The meetings brought together property owners, farmers and appraisal district officials after some agricultural land values increased dramatically, with some appraisals showing values nearly eight times higher than previous assessments.
The significant increases prompted residents to seek explanations from county officials and request a review of the appraisal process.

According to officials, the issue stemmed from incomplete or incorrect information used to evaluate some properties.
County officials have since obtained the information needed to properly assess the affected properties and are in the process of correcting the appraisal errors.
The appraisal district says the updated information will allow staff to make the necessary adjustments as they continue reviewing the affected properties.
Residents who have questions about their property valuations are encouraged to contact the Jones County Appraisal District for additional information.
