‘Cash can’t crash’: Why experts say we need to protect our physical currency

Following the recent Telstra outage last week, a major debate has surfaced surrounding the reliability of cash versus digital payments.

Speaking to 3AW Mornings Tom Elliott, finance expert Steve Worthington stressed that physical currency remains an essential safety net for society, saying “cash is always there and always usable”.

“We are also seeing less and less ATMs, we are seeing less and less branches, and we’re seeing branches open for less and less hours,” Mr Worthington said.
