GAME Reportedly Ending In-Store Sales For Physical Currency Cards

According to a new report by Eurogamer, staff from UK retailer GAME directly claimed that there are plans to end in-store sales of physical currency cards.

This includes Point of Sale Activated cards “that offer currency or in-game credit.” So, customers will no longer find currency cards in-store for Nintendo eShop, Roblox, or iTunes credit. However, GAME should still support some digitally fulfilled codes “generated and printed on a receipt.”

Eurogamer also reports that GAME’s decision to move away from in-store currency cards could go into effect “within a matter of weeks.”

This move follows a series of major in-store changes at GAME. Just last week, reports surfaced that GAME plans to end in-store pre-orders at the beginning of August 2024.

That information reportedly came via a staff memo, which suggested the move was “part of the continued integration into Frasers Group.”

This may also be a reason for the new decision on physical currency cards. If in-store pre-orders will end in early August, that may signal a window for the currency card changes.

In June 2024, GAME did deny reports that it will stop selling physical games and hardware. However, it does seem that even more in-store changes could be on the way.

GAME has not issued an official statement on the reported physical currency card changes at this time.
