King Charles Banknotes: King Charles’ Portrait To Appear On UK Currency, Notes To Hit Market On THIS Date

King Charles’ portrait will appear on the existing designs of all four bank notes in circulation in the UK – £5, £10, £20 and £50. No other changes will be made to the existing designs. The polymer banknotes that feature the face of long-reigning predecessor Queen Elizabeth II will continue to be legal tender in the UK, and shall be co-circulated along with the King Charles III notes.​​ Read on to find out more about exactly when they’ll be circulated.

People are free to exchange their existing Queen Elizabeth II banknotes for the newer Charles’ edition through the Bank of England.

The updated currency with King Charles’ portrait on them will be issued for the first time ever on June 5, 2024.
