L&C Mortgages CEO Young to depart
Fee-free mortgage broker L&C Mortgages chief executive Alan Young (pictured) is leaving the firm effective immediately, Mortgage Solutions understands.
Young joined L&C Mortgages as chief executive in 2022, taking over from Chris Mills, who had been with the firm for around two years. Prior to that, he was managing director and founder of Landmark Optimus for around three years.
Before that, he was managing director of Aventria for just under a year. The company was acquired by DMGT and renamed Landmark Optimus.
He was chief commercial officer (CCO) at John Charcol for around two years and worked at ULS Technology for nearly seven years.
Young initially joined ULS Technology as a national account manager in 2009, working his way up to head of sales in 2012, then head of corporate development in 2014. He then took on the role of business development director in 2015.
In an interview with this publication last year, Young and chairperson Phil Rickards said that they would reinvigorate the vision and direction of the fee-free mortgage broker.
They said that the key part of the business would be “having specialists within each mortgage area” so that everyone who comes through the door goes to the “relevant broker”.
They confirmed a partnership with specialist comparison site Propp.io for specialist property finance referrals last year, and also teamed up with Brilliant Solutions to help customers and advisers with its packaging proposition and referral service.
The fee-free mortgage broker said that it had supported over £13.2bn of mortgage applications in 2023 and completed around £10.3bn in mortgage business.
An L&C spokesperson said: “L&C Mortgages can confirm that Alan Young has left his role as chief executive officer at L&C with immediate effect.
“Mark Harrington will step into the role of interim chief executive officer. Mark has been with the company for more than 21 years and has a deep understanding of L&C’s customers and colleagues. Harrington has held a wide variety of roles at L&C, most recently in the position of chief operating officer.
“Together with the executive committee, Mark looks forward to continuing to drive L&C’s ongoing growth.”
