We’re first time buyers with a 40 year mortgage – people say we’re stupid

A couple from Leicester who took out a 40-year mortgage say they still plan to retire in their fifties. Bryony Clarke, 27, and partner Charlie chose the longer term to lower monthly repayments on their £247,500 home, allowing them to save and renovate. Despite criticism online, they are overpaying where possible and aim to clear the mortgage early to achieve their long-term goal.
