A police probe has been launched after the “unexplained” death of a woman in Greenock. Police were alerted to the “sudden” death at a property on John Wilson Street at around 12.50pm this afternoon (May 11).

Her passing is not believed to be suspicious, police have stated.

The death is being treated as unexplained while officers’ enquiries into the incident continue.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.50pm on Monday, May 11, 2026, police received a report of the sudden death of a woman at a property on John Wilson Street, Greenock.

“The death is being treated as unexplained, pending further enquiries, but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”
