The county government is moving to clear the encampment. One of several notices posted at the county-government-owned Thomson property off South Rogers (aka the Powerline Camp) says that personal property that’s left in the area as of Tuesday (Aug. 25, 2026) will be moved.
The text of the notices reads as follows:
NOTICE
Storing Personal Property at this location is in violation of Monroe County Code 257. On Tuesday, August 25, 2026 any Personal property found at this site (Thomson Property) will be removed and held at the Monroe County Highway Garage, 5900 W Foster Curry Dr. for one week.
If the unlawful storage of items is deemed to consist of trash, garbage, or solid waste, or to constitute a significant health hazard, the property may be disposed of immediately.
Any person seeking to recover property removed from this site must contact Justin Baker, 812-349-2533, to receive instruction on how to recover the property by September 1, 2026.
Personal Property remaining at the Monroe County Highway Garage after the one week holding period shall be deemed abandoned and subject to disposal as per Monroe County Code 258.2.
Nothing in this notice prohibits, discourages, or intends to prohibit or discourage, a law enforcement officer from enforcing any order or ordinance prohibiting public camping, sleeping, or other obstruction of a sidewalk.
