‘Suspicious items’ discovered LIVE at Glasgow property as hazmat unit swarms street

Police, paramedics and firefighters have descended to Glasgow’s west end this afternoon (February 15) following the discovery of ‘suspicious items’ inside a property.

A huge emergency service response scrambled to the city’s Broomhill Drive just before 1pm. It’s understood that eight police cars, one ambulance, three fire appliances and a hazmat response team remain at the scene.




The area is currently cordoned off as police ask drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area. Multiple homes have been evacuated as a result of the incident.

‘I have no idea what’s going on’

A nearby resident, who was just evacuated, told Glasgow Live reporter Keiran: “My mum phoned to ask me what was going on but I have no idea. I’m curious because this has never happened in the 20 years I’ve lived here.”

A large cordon has been put in place, with both police and fire blocking those trying to come in and out.

CID, officers and firefighters gathered near one property and the hazmat response unit is being prepared. A red hose has been connected to the mains and has been stretched halfway down the street.

When I first arrived on the scene at 1.40pm this afternoon there was a huge emergency response with eight police cares, three fire engines and one ambulance.

Glasgow west end homes evacuated by police as ‘suspicious items’ found in Broomhill property

Fire, specialist hazmat units, police and paramedics are all on the scene at Broompark Drive in the west end of Glasgow this afternoon.

Police Scotland issue statement

A Police Scotland spokesperson wrote on social media: “As a precaution, Broomhill Drive between Dumbarton Road and Broomhill Avenue in Glasgow is closed after suspicious items were found within a property following a pre-planned search.

“Several homes have been evacuated and a cordon put in place. Please avoid the area at this time.”

We have contacted Scottish Fire and Rescue and Glasgow City Council for comment.
