Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has unveiled its second hotel in London, marking the latest addition to its international collection of luxury properties.

Its grand opening was marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the hotel with ballet dancer Dame Darcey Bussell, who has been a longtime fan of the iconic hospitality company.

Situated about a mile away from its Hyde Park sibling, the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair offers 50 guest rooms and suites and 77 private residences off Hanover Square.

It was designed by architects Rogers Stirk and Partners, who worked around the building’s existing Vierendeel structure to create a modern townscape façade with striking red brick ‘baguettes’.

The accommodation is the brainchild of British-based Studio Indigo, who has crafted each room and suite to reflect the intricate beauty of a jewellery box.

Guests can expect regal colours such as emerald green, deep maroon and aquamarine, as well as furnishings of fine timbers, marbles and metallic accents in brass, bronze and gold. All rooms boast hand-painted silk wallpaper by House of de Gournay, complete with leaves which have been chosen to reflect to the feng shui of each space.

The property’s public spaces, designed by the Tokyo-based design agency, Curiosity, include an airy reception, atrium and spa with nods to the green spaces of Hanover Square, Berkeley Square and Green Park. Meanwhile, its dining spaces contain a wavy wooden structure to reflect the movement of wind creating a focal point for guests in its main restaurant.

The Mandarin Oriental Mayfair’s launch also sees international Korean Chef Akira Back make his UK debut. Renowned for owning some of the best Japanese restaurants, the culinary mastermind will serve up many of the signature dishes at the moodlit Akira Back. Guests will also have the option to enjoy a Korean chef’s table at the 14-seater Dosa, or retreat to one of the hotel’s three private dining rooms for a more intimate dining experience.

Artistic cocktails and small plates will be available at the late-opening ABar Lounge, while a rooftop bar with panoramic views of London’s skyline will also open later this summer.

Meanwhile, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will offer an extensive menu of wellness treatments, including the new to London binaural biohacking therapies, a four-handed massage and a signature facial. Other facilities include a 25-metre swimming pool, sauna, vitality pools, and experience showers, as well as a gym with a private studio for personal training, nutritional consultations and physiotherapy.

The launch of the Mayfair property means Mandarin Oriental now operates 40 hotels, 12 residences and 23 homes in 26 countries and territories.
