One could argue that Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios has been very busy since the co-op shooter launched, or that it’s been busy selling battle passes. Either way, the game has apparently had a problem with cheaters earning the super credits cash shop currency at accelerated rates according to the studio, but now it’s finally capable of addressing the problem. Two years after the game’s release.
The studio celebrates the arrival of “radically improved” tools to find players who are using bots, exploits, or dupes to “hoover up super credits at rates no human Helldiver could ever reach legitimately,” while framing these (understandably) unspecified tools as an overall win. “A healthier economy means the super credits you earn through honest service to Super Earth stay worth earning,” the announcement closes.
It is important to point out here that Helldivers 2 doesn’t have an economy; there is literally no player trading and no method for people to gift items to one another. Many players on Reddit and Twitter feel similarly, with some calling the announcement obnoxiously written, absorbing the news as one about finances rather than fairness, accusing the studio of a “bald-faced lie” that players were stumping for this, or arguing that cheating wouldn’t happen if super credits could be more easily earned.
I’m slowly coming to the realization that yall released an amazing game completely by accident and have been working to rectify that since
