Blackburn Magistrates’ Court heard Mahboob Hussain had rented a van and disguised the details on the side of the vehicle before carrying out the burglary.
He also stole the CCTV system from the unit.
Hussain, 46, of Water Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to burglary at the F1 MOT Centre in Victoria Way, Rossendale.
He was sent on bail to Burnley Crown Court to be sentenced on November 5.
Safia Hussain, prosecuting, said the business owner was away, and his nephew was looking after things.
When he arrived at work on February 3, he discovered the door had been broken and a large number of items were missing.
Among the missing property were two diagnostic computers, numerous high-value power tools and a quantity of tyres.
Police were able to link Hussain with the theft and discovered panels on the rented van had been covered to conceal where it had come from.
“He also took the CCTV system from the unit,” said Miss Hussain.
Gafer Khan, in mitigation, said his client accepted the offence but took issue with the value placed on the stolen property.
“He says the van wasn’t big enough to carry the number of tyres it is alleged were stolen,” said Mr Khan.
